A Little Leather

Bend It Like Beckham

Victoria Beckham's Spring/Summer 2020 collection is totally inspiring me lately. I am loving her slimmer suiting silhouette and her color combinations. 

So while it's not an exact copy, with my pink and brown combo, I feel I am channeling that groove.

All New

Usually these days, I am buying secondhand online, which is a little risky when there isn't a return policy. This is because it is very difficult for me to get to a brick-and-mortar store for a couple of hours. However recently I had some time, and off to the mall I went!

I was looking for pants, and struck out at J. Crew. But Banana Republic had some great offerings and I took home this great pants-and-sweater combination, with colors and cuts that are right up my alley!

Turn Up the Volume

Swish, swish, swish I go as I walk in this long duster cardigan and my wide-leg pants. Even with a sleek cami underneath, nothing can balance out my lower half from this volume of fabric. Thank you, house of Chloé, for this fun, if slightly unflattering, outfit!

Copycat Style

Hello, slouchy plaid pant worn with flats. You have inspired me. Never mind that you are unflattering, you look I-don't-care-if-I-dirty-my-hems cool. Like an office commuter who forgot to pack her heels.

So here's my take:

A Superior White Blouse for Work

It's difficult to find a work-appropriate white blouse that isn't sheer. This Murphy long sleeve blouse, which also comes as a sleeveless tank and a short sleeve shirt, is from Aritzia. What makes it special is that its body (not the sleeves) is double-layered fabric. They make this style in different colors and prints each season and it's really a great basic piece. Stains don't wash out well, however, so best to wait for a sale.

One Dress Two Ways

Here is a great secondhand find, a black denim dress! I styled it two ways. First up, with heels! I think this would be more of a night-time look.

Another Great T-shirt Find

Sometimes when you find a really special t-shirt, you have to share it with the world! In my book, a great tee is one that is opaque, soft, not too long, and drapes beautifully. This James Perse tee is one of those.

I picked this shirt up in Chicago at Bloomingdales recently. They had a black but this one is "carbon", kind of a washed black. It is called the Vintage Little Boy Tee in lightweight jersey. Wow, it's fantastic! I highly recommend it for quality and softness, in case you are looking for a perfect shirt.

Fall Dresses New and Old

Fall is here! I have packed away all my shorts and sandals, and am loving wearing dresses during the days where it can still get hot with temps in the 90s, but the mornings are pretty chilly.

First up, an A.L.C. sleeveless trench dress that I purchased secondhand. Of course the first day I wore it, I spilled Coke on the front and dry cleaning did not get it out. Oh well!

Floral Skirt Repertoire!

My style isn't very girly. I stay away from ruffles and polka dots. I have some floral pieces, but not many. However I love a good floral pencil skirt!

Disney World Fashionista in January

Hi there, long time, no see! Well let's get right back into it with Zealous Blonde's How to Be Fashionable at Disney World in January!

The weather really fluctuated during our 5 day stay, from freezing to mildly warm. The key was planning ahead and dressing in layers.

Finally the kind of day you hope for!  Still chilly in the morning but I was shedding layers in the afternoon sun.

Keys to being Disney World Fashionista in January:

• LAYERS!

• jeans and dresses with leggings or tights - even if it hits 80 degrees, you will be comfortable in jeans and ready for the cooler temps in the morning and evening.

• a small crossbody bag. In January, you don't need all the baggage you might want in July: giant sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. Find someone in your party already bringing a backpack or stroller and ask them to carry an item or two for you.

Finally a nice day to take photos! Sorry it's been so long. Here is a very layered outfit for a morning in the 30s. I love this dark-plum, jellyish nail polish, but it doesn't love me, it chips pretty quickly.

Spooky Girl is Spooky

My definition of business casual is something like this outfit, which has formal elements like a blazer but casual parts like the t-shirt and riding boots. 

Why are blazers so expensive? I have been building up my wardrobe by purchasing great-quality blazers on eBay. This tweed jacket was in pristine condition, and only cost me $40 with shipping. (A new Theory blazer is close to $400.) 

I am so excited for Halloween! Bring on the spooky.
